Web design

Web design in Pretoria that earns trust in the first five seconds.

Most visitors decide whether to take your business seriously before they read a word. We design websites for South African businesses that clear that bar - then keep working once the visitor stays.

Design that does a job, not just a mood board

A website has about five seconds to answer three questions: what is this, is it for me, and can I trust it. Everything we design is arranged around answering those three in order. That means the hierarchy comes first - what the eye lands on, second, and third - and the decoration comes last, if at all.

In practice that shows up as fewer competing elements, one obvious next action per screen, and copy that says what you actually do instead of what every business in your sector says. We will push back on a design that looks impressive in a portfolio but buries the phone number.

Designed on a phone first, because that is where your visitors are

The majority of South African web traffic is mobile, often on a patchy connection and a mid-range Android. A design that only resolves properly on a 27-inch monitor is a design that most of your visitors will never see.

So we design the narrow layout first and let the desktop version be the generous one, rather than the other way around. Tap targets sized for thumbs, text readable without pinching, forms that do not fight the on-screen keyboard, and images that do not cost your visitor half their data bundle.

You see it before we build it

No client should have to approve a website from a description. We work through wireframes, then a full visual design of the key pages, then an interactive prototype you can click through on your own phone before a single line of production code is written.

Changes at the design stage are cheap and fast. Changes after launch are neither. Two rounds of revisions are included on every project, and in fourteen years we have rarely needed the second.

Brand-led, which means it looks like you and not like a template

We do not start from a theme. Every project gets its own type scale, colour system, spacing rhythm and component set, derived from your brand - or built alongside it if you do not have one yet.

The practical upside is a site that stays coherent as it grows. When you add a page in eighteen months, there is a system for it to slot into, instead of a designer guessing at what the original looked like.

Good to know

Web Design questions, answered.

Do you use templates or themes?

No. Every site is designed from scratch around your brand and your content. Templates are cheaper up front and more expensive the moment you need something the template did not anticipate.

How many revisions do I get?

Two full rounds are included at the design stage, which is where revisions are quick and free of technical cost. If a third round is genuinely needed we will usually absorb it - we would rather you were happy than technically correct about the scope.

Do you write the copy as well?

We will structure it, edit it and tell you plainly when a section is not working. Full copywriting from scratch is available as an add-on. Most clients find the middle ground works best: you supply the substance, we shape it.

What do you need from me to start?

Your logo and brand files if you have them, a rough sense of the pages you need, and any content you already have. If you have none of that, we start with a conversation instead - it is a normal place to begin.

How long does the design stage take?

Usually one to two weeks from the first call to an approved design, assuming feedback comes back within a couple of days. The single biggest cause of delay on any web project is waiting for content, not design or development.
