5 Signs Your Website Needs a Redesign

If your site is working against you instead of for you, the symptoms are usually obvious. Here are five red flags it's time for a refresh.

A website is never really finished - the web moves, visitor expectations shift, and a design that looked sharp five years ago can quietly start working against you. Here are the five signs we see most often when a business comes to us for a rebuild.

1. It breaks down on mobile

More than half of all web traffic in South Africa now comes from phones. If a visitor has to pinch, zoom or scroll sideways to read your site, they won’t stick around to figure it out - and Google penalises that experience in search rankings too.

2. It’s slow

Anything past a couple of seconds to load starts costing you visitors. Slow load times are usually a symptom of an older build: unoptimised images, outdated plugins, or hosting that was fine five years ago but isn’t anymore. We wrote more about this in why speed wins more business.

3. It looks like every other site in your industry

Template sites tend to blur together after a while, especially within the same industry - same layout, same stock photos, same generic headline. If nothing about your site would make a visitor remember you specifically, it isn’t doing the one job that matters most.

4. Updating it means calling someone

If a simple text change or new photo means emailing a developer and waiting a week, your website is holding your business back rather than helping it move. A properly built site should let you make everyday updates yourself, with the developer only needed for the bigger changes.

5. It isn’t generating enquiries

This is the real test. A website should produce leads, bookings or sales - not just exist as a digital business card. If yours gets traffic but no enquiries, something in the design, copy or user journey is quietly turning people away before they reach your contact form.

What to do about it

If two or three of these sound familiar, it’s usually not one page that needs fixing - it’s the foundation. That’s exactly the kind of project we take on: a rebuild that’s fast, distinctive, and built to convert. Get in touch for a free, no-pressure assessment of what’s actually going wrong.
